“Ebb and flow” by definition means to flow in and out of space, and that’s exactly what guest choreographer Katen Reynolds was aiming for when designing this piece for the Rockbridge Ballet Senior Company. Set to the rhythmic melodies of Zoe Keating, the dancers movements mimicked the gentle push and eventual retreat of an oncoming tide or force of nature, although Reynolds true inspiration came from the girls themselves.
“I think the most difficult part about performing this dance was feeling the rhythm of the music and applying it to the movement”, says Senior Company member Jessica Bailey, “It had a lot of sharp and slow contrasting choreography, and learning how to make it look effortless was truly a challenge”. Wearing grey-blue dresses in cohesion with the wave like combinations, the dancers kept their bodies fluid and their lines continually extending, with the intentions of creating one never ending force of motion.
