TheStudio, home of the Rockbridge Ballet Company, is a professional level school intended to foster the love of dance for students of all levels. Featuring a world-class education in ballet, tap, jazz, Pointe and modern, TheStudio focuses on expert instruction and refined technique to produce dancers with premium training. Even though Rockbridge Ballet’s Artistic Director Jessica Pyatt Martin believes in an acute awareness of the history of dance and exposure to classical works, dancers are also encouraged to explore choreographic development and contemporary influences to fervor a life long love of the arts. After achieving the pivotal success of acceptance into the Rockbridge Ballet Company, students of TheStudio have a high success rate of graduation into dance programs at the University level, and eventual career success in dance fields. Director Martin adds, “Our graduates have attended dance programs at schools such as: University of Virginia, VCU, George Mason, Goucher and Temple University.”
In addition to its commitment to the instruction of classical and contemporary dance, TheStudio provides classes for all other artistic pursuits (including photography, writing, art, and American Sign Language). Says Martin, “Our staff was chosen not only for their average of 25 years dance expertise, but also for their heart. Each teacher truly loves what they do and it shows in our classrooms”. TheStudio facilitates its expert staff experience and highly trained students to generate unique artistic and educational opportunities independent to the area, as well as state of the art dance productions which showcase some of the most paramount talent and original choreography witnessed within the nation today.
“One of my primary goals upon creation of TheStudio was to facilitate a place where our local youth could not only learn "dance lessons", but "life lessons" through the value of hard work, being a part of a team, confidence, time management, creativity, grace and an overall belief in themselves. It was important to engender a family atmosphere where dancers were supported not only by our expert, carefully chosen staff, but also by their peers and classmates.”
